When using nappies and separate wraps make sure that the nappy is fully contained within the wrap. The wrap does not have to fit too tightly as long as none of the nappy is touching any clothing it will not leak.
Wash all nappies and components at least once before use and do not expect full absorbency until at least 4th wash (6th for Bamboo fabric).
Dry wraps naturally in sunshine where possible with the occasional tumble dry.
Consider purchasing a set of pegs on a frame (designed for "smalls" on the washing line). This can be used inside as well as out for drying liners and wraps very quickly. Available from Woolworths.
Use pocket-style nappies if you do not have a tumble drier as they dry much faster than other shaped nappies.
Get rid of lingering smells by drying outside in sunshine where possible. Also consider adding white vinegar to the softener dispenser drawer in your machine. This acts as a natural softener and helps to keep the nappies smelling fresh. You can also purchase planet-friendly nappy sanitiser.
If you are on a super tight budget and have more than one child in nappies (or are planning to) then consider getting size 2 nappies with nippa fastening and folding them down for a newborn so that they will last through the entire nappy experience (about 2.5 years) or birth to potty nappies which are designed for this purpose.
Smaller nappies can be fitted into larger stuffable pockets for padding (such as the stuffable lites from Nature Babies). This has been used successfully with size 1 bamboozles into a size 2 stuffable lite.
